"Colorful Train", Athens, Greece, 2024
Many travelers to Athens, Greece, are struck by the graffiti that seems to cover the entire city. Interestingly, only one metro line, the Red Line, carries graffiti, while the others remain clean. Capturing this train at a slow shutter speed transformed the graffiti into a vibrant blur of colors. In the background, the Hellenistic Stoa of Attalos, rebuilt in the 1950s, stands as a testament to Athens’ rich past, with the Acropolis rising further in the distance. This image compresses thousands of years of Athenian history into a single frame, bridging ancient grandeur with contemporary urban life.
While walking past the Roman Agora, I noticed metro trains passing through a nearby tunnel—a striking juxtaposition against the ancient buildings and archaeological ruins. Intrigued by the contrast, I experimented with different shutter speeds and revisited the spot twice to refine and explore the ideas forming in my mind. This image, a culmination of those efforts, stands out as one of my favorites from the series.
